The spreading stain

I dreamed I dwelled in a basement, some dingy space with grey walls of old concrete supported by heavy timber wood framing. I had few possessions: an old mattress on the floor and some plates and books. There was a crack in the corner of the room, minor, but from it seemed to flow, every once in awhile, a spreading stain of water.

Thing is, nobody but I could see the stain. My kids and wife would come to visit, and yet they could see nothing in the corner. The water then would take on a life of its own, flowing out into the air and forming into a large, black, fabric spider with long legs that would fashion themselves into a kind of swing or hammock. I would get into it and swing, but again, nobody could see it except for me.

Then, just a mysteriously, the "spider" would revert into its translucent watery phase and slide back up into the corner and out of sight.
