I'm not an expert or anything, but for whatever it's worth, I would be surprised if the LLM game continues very long; everyone is losing almost ridiculous amounts of money at it, most of the big players (Microsoft, Amazon, etc.) are cutting their losses and pulling out of investments, and every year LLMs pollute the internet (that is, their training data) more and more, making it even more ruinously expensive just to break even.

These things are dangerous, but they're dangerous more in the sense of a Red Queen's race than a Manhattan Project, I think.
