I dreamed my son and I were trying to navigate through a junkyard filled with dangerous animals. We would hop up the shells of burned-out cars that would levitate so that we were above the animals--they would shoot up suddenly like a flower, and just as soon as we stepped off the cars would slide back down. The grains of sand in the place were the color of the moon, and gleamed in the starlight. We hid and hurried along, making for a strange, gas station-like structure in the middle of the junkyard, which we knew was safe.

The animals seemed to come in pairs, and would circle the cars searching for us, snarling. There were tigers and wolves, but most persistent were a couple of hyenas that would nip at us as we leaped up on the cars, just out of their reach. They were unable to climb up after us.

I was trying to park the family car at a large multi-dwelling made of grey stone. It looked ominous like some old European castle. I let my family head up--they were visiting someone's apartment inside--while I went to move the car from the run-down parking lot where we'd left it (it was for tenants only). The lot itself was surrounded by a green-and-white fence beside a stream, and the foreboding apartments were across a small bridge. Near where the lot met the road I found a badly damaged backpack that I swore belonged to us, and next to it a bunch of balled-up receipts and random papers. I tried to unfold them, but they were so creased with time they tore in my hands.

I took the car down a residential street of towering oaks and parked in there, and as I walked back I encountered a dog with two bodies and two heads. The bodies themselves were long and serpentine, black fur with deep brown underbellies, and the heads of the animal, cute enough, were like a Shih-tzu. I almost tripped over it, and then it began to swarm my legs, biting. An owner called out that there was nothing to fear, but I began to run.

As I made my way to the bridge to the apartments, I saw a friend of mine from the gym walking up. I had no idea she lived there, and I hid out of sight. She was with another woman who I presumed was her date for the night, and I thought: "Yeesh, she can do better than that."

Once they were inside, I proceeded on my way.
