Unidentified Aerial Garbage
Jun. 14th, 2023 06:35 amI dreamed we were on a trip to South Jersey, somewhere down near Philly. We were visiting briefly with an Australian fellow, stock and bald but powerfully built and red with too much sun, who had relocated to Jersey several decades ago. He and his wife lived in a sort of dilapidated house that faced a large lot near the Delaware, dense housing all about. He was sitting out with his neighbor, a gaunt fellow with several days of no shave on his face, in the yard, holding court. He was some sort of musician, I believe, but also made a living by purchased businesses that were down on their luck and flipping them; as we spoke his wife was negotiating with a bankrupt jeweler for the man's stock, which the Australian planned to then resell on the Internet. He was affable and always seemed to be one step ahead, and was trying to help us with directions. He said he would take his truck and drive us part way along the route that led to a road headed to the Shore.
As the wife and kids and I got into the car to begin rolling out, we all looked up. There were multicolored lights in the sky, moving in various crazy directions. We were all stunned, even the imperturbable Australian, and stared up at them. It made me think of the recent whistleblower allegations about UAPs making the rounds of late.
Then one of the "lights" drifted down maybe 20 feet above me. Glowing red, it shifted, and I noticed it was just a filthy red plastic bag, floating in the air, buffeted by the winds. It had caught the sun's light and was shining it weirdly at us. As it floated lower and lower, I jumped up and grabbed it, and showed it to everyone.
We watched as more of the "lights" drifted down toward us: clumps of half-melted plastic bottles and old CDs, unwanted pieces of televisions, etc. It turns out, then, that it was all just garbage that had somehow become swept up in air currents and was floating around up high in the atmosphere, a mysterious garbage heap in the sky.
