So take this with a VERY LARGE grain of salt, but the impression I've gotten from some of my spiritual contacts is that this is literally true—and is, in fact, (one of?) the reason(s?) souls descend into incarnation: when you come back out of it again, it colors the "mode" of your spirit until you do it again.

I'm not certain of this and, in fact, I've never seen the idea discussed anywhere, so it might just be noise. Still, it's an interesting notion.
