Gnoses

There is a gnosis of the mind, an apprehension of spiritual truths by reason and the intellect.

There is a gnosis of the heart, wherein spiritual truths are absorbed into the depths of the soul.

If the gnosis of the mind is not joined with that of the heart, it remains arid and detached, meandering in a labyrinth. The spiritual truths cannot be realized.

If the gnosis of the heart is not joined to that of the mind, it may become untethered to reason and subject to the passions and the imagination.

D'ya know you have just put your finger on what grates with me in so much qabala theory/esoteric teaching?

I am all gnosis of the heart.

My mind is fine, thank you and I find equations beautiful, but it will not go near the analysis of those spiritual truths. They seem entirely empty. Even trivial, if this be not a contradiction. This sphere and that sphere, that level of Absolute and yon path? Nice for an artistic image maybe. No offence! - I can tell from observing discussions that this means so very much to others. But it continues to be utterly obscure to me. And I don't have the energy to pursue why not, apart from thinking that perhaps it is only a case of the language and imagery that make no sense to me. In other forms of expression perhaps it would click.

Or is this a florid case of gnosis becoming subject to the imagination?

That is really interesting. I think most of us tend to be more one or the other. (In reality, I suspect there are several other gnoses...a gnosis of the belly say, a gnosis of the "nether regions," even a gnosis of the throat, perhaps.)

It's how we sift this world we're in. For some, navigating in their particular sphere may be enough. But I believe one will lead to the other, somehow.

I think the imagination would probably fall under "mind," so yer on the right track. ;)
