In Traffic

I dreamed I was stuck in traffic on a major roadway here in town. I was driving some kind of bike-car hybrid--you were in a car-like shell, but you had to pedal to make it go. This was fine so long as the traffic wasn't moving, but I had to be somewhere. A lady in a minivan in front of me--middle-aged woman with unnaturally red hair and wide-rimmed glasses--was driving along with her daughter, but very slowly, in the "fast" lane. I honked, and she made a "what do you expect me to do?" gesture. As the roadway sloped down, I sped past her and through a toll booth.
We hit a straightway where the road expanded, and now suddenly it was snaking alongside the shoreline. There was a bright pink sky and sunrise, and other bikers on proper bicycles went barreling past me without even a glance. No matter how hard I pedaled, the vehicle barely budged. I drifted across the lanes as countless other vehicles of all sizes and shapes flew past, and finally gave up pedaling.
I left the vehicle half in the shoulder and half on the sand. At least I had the sunrise.
